Where’s my mind been? I don’t know.

Have only been on here off and on five minutes at a time so I apologize for being behind in looking at blog posts. I’ve felt a little scatter brained lately and quickly wrote this poem earlier today.

Here in body
but not in mind

all over the place
it’s been
back and forth
to and fro
just going with the flow.

Gettin out
and all around
needed to get outta town
chasin the flim flam man
cuz he got out of bounds.

Somewhere
there’s a place
to plant this furrowed brow
all for one
or one for all
unless
I throw myself
against a wall.

Another brick
another stone
I burrow through
this maze alone
and wonder

what’s it all for?

The easel sits
the paints dry up
and the brushes fall apart.

The room’s been put
all neat as a pin

but where’s my mind been?

*******************************************************************************

Then finished up another poem that was in response to a friend’s poem.

At home in the studio

colors fly through the air

like a maze in my hair.

I’m crazy they say
crazy as a loon
and the blue moon
beckons.

The red rose of despair
crashes through my head
the thorns making gashes
of thoughts that I dread.

The blackness of doom
fights its way through
trying its hardest
to fill me with gloom.

but the brushes keep flying
as I talk to myself

silently

I said
to myself that I

would follow
the fireflies
to the forest of dreams.

I’d morph
to a caterpillar
and crawl
slowly along

forever

till finally I arrived
at the tallest tree.

could I make it said I
all the way to the top?
I see that perfect branch
and I’m hearing it say:

“Dammit! Build your purple chrysalis
with lavender fields!”

Butterfly Emerging from a Chrysalis
Monoprint

P.S. Just FYI, there is no “flim flam man” in my life right now and I’m not feeling gloomy. 😆 :p
I’m just trying to create structure and organize the thoughts running through my head.

About pam

I am retired from real 9 to 5 jobs. I do my artwork and occasionally write poetry. In September 2010, I moved to Fargo, ND after spending 60 years in Phoenix, Arizona. Now, five years later, July 2015, I'm back in Arizona. And yes, I love the heat!

    Pam's paintings ARE profound!

😆 Well I don't know about that but some of them sure do make people wonder. Originally posted by debplatt:

Fireflies were twinkling at us from every angle over the vast expanse of these hills. It was magical.

Deb, that was definitely magical! Wish I'd seen it!Originally posted by Suntana:

Carlos, I've never been there but have heard about it. Being a little claustrophobic, I'm not sure I could go into the caves. Originally posted by NLDH:

Same here. I think I'll buy a bunch of seeds for next year and see what happens in the spring. Too late to plant for this spring.

I experienced absolute true BLACK total 100% darkness when being wayyy down in Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico and then they turn out all the lights for about a minute. Man! It doesn't get any darker than that. You truly cannot see your hand in front of your face. :insane:

You're right Scott. I never had a problem before…just started thrashing the brushes around to get color on…never thought so much about it first. What I need to do is take the painting off the easel that I was working on more than a year ago and start fresh.

I'm thinking seeing fireflies and being fascinated by their little belly lights during childhood may be a nationwide occurrence. Do you think?

Us, too. 🙂 We'd make holes in the lid by tapping in nails, then removing them. After a while, we'd let them out again.

  8. L2D2 says:

Yes. That is one thing I really miss by living in the city—-I haven't seen a firefly in years. Have been wondering if they still exist because last few years, even when I lived in the country, I saw no fireflies. I miss them.

  9. L2D2 says:

Fireflies are in my favorite childhood memories when we lived out in the country and the nights were alive with little pinpoints of light everywhere. We used to catch them and keep them in a jar to watch them light up.

    Me too!

Now I'm feeling really lucky. We see them every summer here, flying around the lawn. 🙂

Henar, thank you. My instructor said I used a little too much ink but he still liked it and loved the composition.Originally posted by maryamt08:

Thank you and your welcome Maryam. Some people can write poems every single day but not me. Maybe every couple of months an inspiration for a poem comes.

The chrysalis has meaning for me too. It's like a change, or a new beginning. I've used it before in other artwork.

No flimflam? You poor thing! It certainly seems you're popular in some circles though! 72 comments, oh my, oh my , oh my!:) I want to be able to do that with musical phrases. That's what I've been concentrating on. I get short little licks but no symphonies yet. Lots of tablature to have blow around in the wind though. Ah, the great open spaces. 😉 😀

I think composing music would be hard to do. Learning how to write the notes (or is that the "tablature" you are talking about) on your own would be like me trying to learn shorthand on my own. Now, shorthand is not even taught anymore because there is no need for it. But to me, music is much more complicated than shorthand. My son learned to compose at classes at Glendale Community College, which has a very good music department.Originally posted by thesamanyolu:

Hello Pam. How are you my friend?

Hello Nevin. I am fine….just very busy.

Tab is simplified notation – strings and frets. I'm trying to get to the point where I can improvise at a fairly decent speed and forgo the notation part. 🙂

Been acting like a Sunday Web Surfer, have you? :DI like both poems and the monoprint, which is very expressive, strong and impressive, Pam.I think I like the first poem best, but don't want to share anymore of me 😆

Haven't been a web surfer lately as I've been off the pc for weeks it seems. Only got on to check my emails. Am taking care and trying hard to visit a few new posts this morning in between other stuff. Hope everyone had a grand St. Patrick's Day. I sure did because I became a grandma!
