Last month or so, I did a few quick paint sketches of faces. The first one is finished. The second one is just the first layer. I may turn it on its side as if the figure is laying down but then the name would have to change. We shall see.

In this next one, you can see the texture more clearly made by the gesso. Some of the texture will be more obscured once I add more paint.

This photo appears slightly blurry to me. The photographers fault, I am sure. Guess who that is. Plus, I see other things going on in this one, rather than just a face, so it may change completely once I'm finished. It depends on what mood I'm in when I continue with it. Come to think of it, I see a smaller head and shoulders sitting on the shoulder of the large figure and there is another one on top of that. Half of the face of the figure may be combined with part of the door. Plus I see a face screaming behind the hand. I see even more but I'm not saying. Ok now…I'm giving myself the creeps.
It is interesting seeing my work on the screen. It's as if I am the observer and can critique it while staying detached.
Darko, I saw a tiny one inch picture in the Wall Street Journal while reading an article. The face had an interesting angle to it and, looking at it with a magnifying glass, I loved his lips. π I figured the title 'Numbers Man' went with what is going on in the stock market. Angeliki, I too like the golden color. The second one might lose alot of it though because it's just the first layer of paint.

Thanks Angeliki. I was going to work on it this week but I've got the handyman coming over to finish a few things I started and couldn't finish. He fixed my sliding glass door yesterday. It needed new wheels. I can open it with one finger now….yaaaaaaaay!
Thanks Scott. I prefer this style as opposed to my more meticulous paintings. It's much more freeing. I usually hold my breath when I push the button. Years ago I never had to take more than one photo of a subject. Nowadays, that's not the case as my eyes are getting worse. For some reason I didn't take a second one of this or the first one for that matter. I was lucky getting the focus right with that one. The things I now see in the second painting, I didn't see until I had it up on the computer screen. It gives me a whole other perspective.
i know what you mean pam, somehow i become more objective when i am looking at my painting on the screen… even more interested. it's a strange phenomenon.

Guess who that is." two tips you probably already know.1. don't breathe when you push the button.2. take a couple or more. one will be sharpest.the second painting… when i have a fleeting message like that, i often forbear. in other words i can't go on to completion because i don't want to lose that quality. i call it 'essence', and it is a very fragile substance. π
Both sketches are intriguing, and I can't wait to see them developed. You have a very interesting style. Not that I know much about paintings.

I don't think I'll touch the first one although, now that I look at it again, I'm thinking of adding a light colored dot in each eye for a reflection. That might take away from the intense look though, I don't know. The second one will be developed much further.

Heavens, no need to be sorry. Yes, I had seen a face up there…not a baby though. There is much to do to this painting if I decide to take it to what I call 'The Bad Place'. Every time I look at it, I see more. What's funny is that the picture I used as a reference had a man looking around the door and it was an ad for a men's cologne. I totally changed it by kind of putting in my face then giving myself long blond hair.

Ummmmmm……..ok, but it must just be me seeing it. On the door, at the top middle, where the blueish color is, it looks like a baby with it's mouth open and throwing up a river of white stuff. Sorry. :faint:

Thanks Allan. Yes, I do like using lots of color. Ever since I did a whole series of copies from The Fauves, it taught me to use color. I must do a post on this group of artists, although they were a surly group spending much of their time drinking alcohol in cafes.
The 1st one … Hmmm? Charlie Sheen? Looks familiar, but it's escaping me at the moment. Great job, Pam! Solid! :headbang: The 2nd one … Whoa! I would have never seen the 2 little images on his shoulder if you hadn't pointed them out. I swear, I think the immediate 1st little image looks a tad like Kurt Russell with an eye patch. π So, are you possibly conveying that that dude's conscious has a conscious of itself? Whoa! What a concept! It's like Conscious Squared. :eyes: At first I couldn't see the screaming face behind the hand. It took me a couple of seconds before it materialized. And now that you mentioned all this hidden stuff, I now swear that I think I see yet another full-sized body to the right of the screaming face. I picture it facing back and looking downward to the right. I don't if THAT was by design or if I'm just seeing that.That is weird! Mind-boggling! Cool!Day-Um! You're good, Pam! :up: :up: It's like you created one of those hidden images pictures that were popular in the 90s where you had to cross your eyes to focus a certain way so that the image would appear. Except you did it without computers.
π Thanks Carlos. I swear I don't plan for these things to happen. Usually when I do a random face, I just want to capture the intensity in the eyes or what I feel is the essence of the person. With the first one, I could have done more, like toning down the white on the bottom half of his face, but as soon as I got done with the eyes….I stopped. There are times when an artist has to put down the brush and walk away and say 'it's done'. The second one, well….I knew it wasn't done but wanted to see it on the computer screen. I didn't start seeing all these things till it was in front of me on the screen. Yes, I do see a full-sized body to the right of the screaming face. This painting is one of those that take on a life of its own. I won't be able to continue with it till next weekend though because I'm painting black and white checks on a wall in my kitchen.
I like the first one, Pam. To me there seems to be something a bit androgynous about that face. Maybe.As for the work in progress, I seem to be seeing a genie on his shoulder, with folded arms.

I really like the second one and would hang it as is. It has so much more going on then just looking around the door. I know little about art except for what I find appealing to my eyes. So, for what it's worth GREAT job!!!:up:

Okay, the Panther is actually part of the Screaming Lady. You just have to focus differently. Look at the upper left of the lady's head and a pointed ear comes into focus. Then a Panther or some sort of Cat materializes.And the Rabbit, it can actually morph into a woman's face. See the hair on the sides?Woooooooo! What have you created here, Pam?!! :yikes:

π Just wait till a put up a few of the really weird paintings that are finished. 'The Pod People' might be the next painting I put up. It's a bit on the creepy side with Rabbit Man, Snake Man, Picasso Man, and a few other things in it. This painting got into a six week exhibition at the Harry Wood Gallery at Arizona State University. I'm finishing up a roll of film of paintings and other odds and ends. I took a few photos of the recent moon/venus exhibition. Friday night, I think it was when Venus was very close to the Moon. I have no idea how this photo will turn out.

The Rabbit I am seeing is towards the bottom Right of the Pic. There are 2 solid dots and a fainter dot below those two. Then below that is a very distinct mouth-looking line. Depending on how you look at that spot, you can switch between seeing the Rabbit or a woman's face with hair on the sides.Uh Oh! Guess what, Pam? Now I'm seeing something in the 1st Pic. Look at the forehead. Don't you see the hairy-chested upper body of a Bodybuilder Dude on there? :insane: π
